Rural Development Plan 2014-2020 – Community Woodland Group briefing

Posted on April 3, 2016 by

On March 23rd, the Forestry Hub at the Eco Parc Machynlleth hosted an information day outlining current funding Rural Development Plan funding opportunities for Community Woodland Groups. Here, Maria Wilding, LlyG Communication & Development Officer reports.

Eight Llais y Goedwig members took the opportunity to grill Bill McDonald, Land Use and Sustainable Forest Management Advisor for Welsh Government (pictured above), and Dr Evie Over, Glastir Woodlands Project Officer, Natural Resources Wales on Rural Development Plan funding that groups could access over the next few years.

Presentations covered four funding schemes in detail and touched on several related RDP initiatives:

Sustainable Management Scheme offering financial support for a range of activities that will improve the management of natural resources

Glastir Woodland Creation

Timber Business Investment Fund  – enhancing forestry potential and adding value to forest products

Rural Communities Development Fund  – Investment to meet local need and strengthen communities

You can find the guidance notes and contact details for each of the schemes on the relevant Welsh Government website page for each scheme – click on the links above

It was really beneficial to  be able to share the thinking behind the grant schemes and how and why they were set up, as well as information on what to think about and emphasise when making an application or submitting an expression of interest.

Bill and Evie were joined by Glenda Davies and Catrin Cullen, Communications officers for RDP and Glastir who advised everyone to sign up to the Wales Rural Network newsletter  for news and updates of everything RDP related

A more detailed report of the day, with the presentations for each scheme with a record of the questions asked by groups and crucially the answers to those questions is available here.
