What are the StarTree General Assemblies?

The General Assemblies are a chance for all the project partners from across Europe to get together and discuss how things are progressing in their regions. They are really well attended meetings bringing together academics, practitioners and NGO representatives.

Finland meeting

The meeting in Finland took place in the wooden clad buildings of the European Forest Institute in Joensuu, North Karelia. The first day was spent in meetings to discuss StarTree research projects over the next six months. Llais y Goedwig are part of the action research team and our progress in several aspects of this was presented, such as the Community Woodland Beekeeping Course, research into non-food uses of wild mushrooms, bluebells and a NWFP inventory tool-kit.

The second day was spent on a field trip visiting Finnish forests and NWFP businesses. A visit was made to a research project inoculating Silver Birch with the Innotus obliquus fungus in order to produce the medicinal “Pakuri” which has potential in the treatment of cancer.

The third day was spent reflecting on the project so far and looking at ways in which the research into non-wood forest products can be disseminated and made most useful for practitioners on the ground.
