Family, poets, wildlife experts and local business…over 100 people took part in late April in LlyG local networking event MID, the first of of three this Summer across the country (NORTH, MID, SOUTH). Hosted by Montgomery Wildlife Trust (MWT), the family friendly awareness raising event launched the MWT appeal to purchase the woodland for use by the surrounding community.
A lively programme of story-telling, nature crafts, guided walks, games and forest school sessions opened up all corners of the woodland to the local community throughout the day, giving a taster of the great potential opportunities in wildlife exploration, conservation, leisure, education and health that Dolforwyn has to offer.
Refreshments in the sunshine leant itself to a relaxed arena for comments and ideas about what the residents thought about the woodland and what they would like to see happen, including mountain biking, forest school, courses and volunteering as a forest warden.
Feedback from the day –
We had a lovely time in the woods today. We had not been here before, but will return =)
Would be great for more Forest School and woodland courses
Would like a mountain bike track here please. Wonderful views at the top of the woodland!
Local poet Chris Kinsey also captured the magic of woodland exploration at the event with a specially written poem –
Dolforwyn Woods Fun Day
Passing ravens call louder than all the chat
And chuckle of the clearing.
Two brief blots dapple red ceder peaks
Dropping the feel of feathered grain onto new charcoal.
On our way down the track – eyes are jerked
By a spotted flycatcher dot-to-dotting,
Plotting its prey down a jagged square
And catching it on the climb.
