23rd March 2016 – Community Energy Wales Conference, Cardiff

Posted on February 25, 2016 by

Are you a community woodland considering community energy as part of your portfolio? This may be of interest if so.

The conference is ideal for anyone seeking to build a business case for new investment in renewable energy. It will also be of particular interest to those in local authorities, private sector, the social housing sector, and community groups wanting to understand how to build a compelling business case for renewable developments below 5MW.

  • What is the future of the community and municipal energy sector in Wales following the FIT review.
  • What are expected returns on small and medium scale renewables after the FIT review. Which technologies and what scale are still economic? What can be done to improve the economic case for new developments
  • What are the best renewable strategies for the community, housing associations and local authorities?
  • How do smart grids, storage and local supply build the investment case?
  • Provide an opportunity to network and discuss these options and make relevant connections with others with similar ideas, challenges and aspirations.

This event will look at state of the sector as it stands with presentations from DECC, OFGEM and Professor of Economics at Cardiff University, Calvin Jones.

CEW will also provide an analysis on how the changes to FITs impact on different types of schemes at different scales?

In addition to this we have speakers who are developing innovative technological solutions and new business models to link local supply to local demand in order to maximise the potential of their schemes. These include:
– Energy Local who will be trialling a scheme in North Wales with Cyd Ynnio to use smart technology to link local supply with local demand.
– Simon Proctor of Bristol Energy a new energy company set up to be a force for social good.
– Matt Wood from Bioregional – who are delivering the ERIC trial in partnership with Moixa Technology to use domestic energy storage to increase utilisation of locally generated electricity.

There will be trade stalls available for anyone wishing to promote their products or services on the day and plenty of opportunities for networking and questions.
Further details and the programme for the day can be found here.
