17th – 18th October 2015 – National Coppice Federation Gathering and AGM 2015, Cumbria

The UK Coppice Industry’s annual get-together. Networking, fun, food, beer, coppice skills, visits, talks, old (and new!) friends. A must if you love coppice and coppicing! This year it is being hosted by the Coppice Association North West in the beautiful Lake District.

Venue – Grizedale Campsite, Bowkerstead Farm, Salterthwaite, Ulverston, Cumbria LA12 8LLAGM to be held at ‘The Yan’ , Grizedale Visitor Centre

Intinerary –

Friday 16th October

Arrive from 4pm

Evening BBQ at Bowkerstead camp site – bring your own food and drink

Saturday, 17th October

9.00  Welcome & introduction at Bowkerstead Farm

9.30  Walk to Force Knott Wood for hands-on crafts session; likely to include crate making, swill basket making, shake making, and feel free to bring your skills to share.

12.30  Lunch @ campsite.

13.30  Site visits:- Choice of

    1. Sales Bank Wood (by car) Biodiversity theme
    2. Stoney Hazel Wood (on foot) Coppice products theme
    3. Moss & Spring Height (by car) Training & apprenticeships theme
    4. Stott Park Bobbin Mill (max party of 15) English Heritage – Historical tour

16.30  Groups return to campsite and make their way to The Yan

17.00  AGM at The Yan

19.00  Dinner at The Yan

20.00  Talk on tree health – Barnaby Wylder, Forestry Commission

20.30  Closing talk by Walter Lloyd (CANW President)

21.00 Return to campsite

Sunday, 18th October

10.00  Discussion Groups:- Choice of

    1. Charcoal Group – redesigning the charcoal bags, with a presentation from Leeds University.
    2. Hazel Propagation workshop.
    3. Pricing & Selling Coppice Products.

12.00  Lunch @ campsite.

13.00  Optional site visit to the Coppice Co-op yard (nr. Silverdale) and then depart.
