We are excited to announce that this year it will be held at the groundbreaking Wales Institute for Sustainable Education, based at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth, mid Wales. For more details on the building see http://info.cat.org.uk/wise

For details on the work at C.A.T. see http://www.cat.org.uk All attendees will have free entry to the site and be able to look around the display circuit there. We have also arranged some special tours of their woodfuel boilers and woodland, as well as the visits out to local woodlands.

There are unique opportunities to stay at the site at CAT on the Friday night- one option in the new WISE building itself, with dinner and a twmpath booked for the Friday evening. We are lucky to be joined by local twmpath band and caller- The Backroom Band- click HERE to see details of their award winning musicians.

The Backroom Band is one of the most experienced and lively ceilidh bands in Wales. This musical powerhouse from Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, West Wales has been getting people dancing in mid Wales and beyond for over 25 years. Our music and dances draw on the rich traditional folk repertoire of Wales, Ireland, England and Scotland.

It should be an inspiring and memorable weekend so don’t delay returning your booking form!

Further info on programme:

The programme this year is based on the theme of “Participation”- by this we mean participation and involvement in woodlands and forest-based initiatives both on a local and national level; looking at how to encourage it and how to sustain it. Maybe your group has been through periods when lots of members are involved only to find engagement drop off at other times, we’ll be discussing how to grab peoples’ attention and encourage a sustainable level of participation. As well as many chances to share experiences, this important annual gathering will include a chance develop and shape a manifesto for the future of Welsh woodlands, as well as getting up to speed on the latest developments in forest policy in Wales.
