Communities and Nature (CAN)
Notice for opening of Round 3 ‘ Visitor Facilities and Wildlife Attractions’
Update April 2010
Dear All,
In the next few weeks we will embark on our third ‘Lot’ under CAN – the ‘Visitor Facilities and Wildlife Attractions’ Lot. These were previously lots 3 and 4 that have now been combined into one tranche. Unlike the previous lots ‘Small Scale Activities’ and ‘Connections and Paths’, this will not be done through procurement. Instead, we will be inviting expressions of interest via Buy4Wales. Those proposals which show the potential to best meet the selection criteria (to be agreed soon) will be invited to draw up formal business plans. The CAN Selection Board will undertake the final selection of the business plans. Those organisations whose business plans are selected will sign a memorandum of agreement as a ‘joint sponsor’ with CCW and commence implementation works as soon as possible.
We have also amended our Aims and Objectives and our scoring criteria to better reflect the shifting priorities within the project – now under Aim A we will also score for ‘permanent jobs created’ and ‘enterprises created’ as well as for ‘visitor numbers’.
The total value of this new Lot will be approximately £4 million, and we anticipate selecting between 4 – 10 projects. The minimum project value will be £250K and whilst there will be no fixed maximum, we would expect projects to be less than £1 million.
We envisage running one more ‘Small Scale Activity’ lot for projects of less than £250K some time at the end of this year.
Please keep an eye on our webpage which will be updated in the near future. We will also send round a collective email as soon as the invitation for Expressions of Interest appears on Buy4Wales.
Further information will follow shortly.
Kindest re
gards,
The CAN team.

The second call for tenders from the CCW CAN project has just been announced (18 March 2010). Projects of any size can be tendered as long as the group proposing them is eligible. Match funding is required to meet half of the total project costs but this can be in kind staff and volunteer time. The application process is long and involves three steps each of which you need to pass to get a project. The first stage is the Pre Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ) which assesses whether your group and project idea are eligible to tender. The second stage is an assessment of a brief description of your project idea and the third and final stage is assessment of your final project bid. The CAN staff are helpful and will advise on all stages of the procedure and run workshops to help groups that pass the PQQ stage prepare bids. Expect the process to take a year so apply now for work to start summer 2011. The basic documents describing the process and what this call is about can be downloaded from the links below.
