About Dewis Gwyllt

Project aims, objectives and background

Project aims

Dewis Gwyllt (Wild Choice) is a 3-year EAFRD*/Welsh Government funded action learning project, being delivered by Llais y Goedwig in partnership with Wild Resources Ltd, that aims to:

  • develop new supply chains of sustainably harvested wild produce
  • provide valuable income for Wales’ community woodlands
  • support the development of new harvesting, processing and marketing methods
  • invite businesses to experiment with some of Wales’ finest, sustainably sourced produce

History

The Dewis Gwyllt project was developed from Llais y Goedwig’s participation in the StarTree Project that ran from 2012 until 2016. StarTree was an EU FP7+ pan-European research project looking at the potential for Non-Wood Forest Products (NWFP) to contribute to rural development in 14 regions of Europe. In Wales, we discovered that there are enterprises selling products that use wild ingredients, but there are few recognised supply chains or networks to join up woodland owners and managers who may have harvestable resources, with producers who could use them. Find out more about our contribution to StarTree here.
