Balancing the needs for access, biodiversity and income in any woodland setting is a real challenge, even for experienced foresters and private owners. Add in volunteers and the need to work with, and for, a diverse group of people and community woodland management can become fraught!

However, alongside the challenges lie great rewards. Llais y Goedwig, the grassroots network of community woodland groups in Wales, is organising a series of events across the country to help you manage your woodlands – the Woodland Management Roadshows.

Each event is intended to break down the process of managing a woodland into its component elements and show how they work together.  The morning session will be more theoretical (in a fun way and there are no tests!) while the afternoon will be more in depth workshops some of which will be held out in the woods. We are planning to bring along speakers and workshop leaders with real local experience of community woodland management, so please come along, share your experiences and learn something new.

This summer the first four Woodland Management Roadshow events will be hosted by the following community-based woodland projects:

SW Wales      17th July 2010 – Troserch Woods near  Llangennech, Swansea
Mid Wales     24th July 2010 – Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust, Dolforwyn woods in Abermule
N Wales      7th August 2010 – Moelyci near Tregarth, Bangor
SE Wales     11th September 2010 – Blaen Bran Community Woodland, Cwmbran

If you would like to come to one or more of these events then please fill in and send us a booking form (above) or contact Zena or Deb on 01654 703366, email info@llaisygoedwig.org.uk
